Arti (real name) needs:
a cold shower (no I don’t – really!)
you (well…)
to get her life back and establish herself as the person in charge … (well – maybe)
your help (of course)
a kidney (last time I looked I had two reasonably good ones!)
your help to win Miss Student 2006 (as if!)
to blog more! (very true that one)
the remote (found it – not under the sofa this time!)
to play (always)
more love (too true)

Arti needs:
to feed
some design ideas
one month’s rest now (yay for that one!)

Old hat I know, but the first time I’ve tried one of these1

1. Flip to page 18, paragraph 4 in the book closest to you right now, what does it say?
“Reading Tests are available in different formats: single word reading (word recognition); sentence reading; sentence completion (cloze); passage of continuous reading (reading analysis).”
Tackling Dyslexia Second Edition (Thank goodness it was a short paragraph)

2. If you stretch out your left arm – as far as possible, what are you touching?
My bedroom wall – painted very pale yellow

3. What's the last program you watched on tv?
Just saw most of something by Andrew Marr on BBC2 about the history of the 20th Century, but flipped over a few times to ITV1 to watch snatches of Tycoon.

4. Without looking, guess what time it is.
Probably about 10.45pm. (actually 22.38)

5. Except the computer, what can you hear right now?
Murmur of TV on in living room

6. When was the last time you were outside and what did you do?
I’ve was out tutoring until about 8.40pm

7. What are you wearing? – A work outfit
Underwear (which I will leave to the imagination), a pair of brown trousers with a faint darker stripe in them, brown socks, an orangy red camisole top under a red shirt with a red/orange/yellow florally, paisley type design (3/4 length sleeves, no collar)

8. Did you dream last night? If you did, what about?
Yes, but can’t now remember the content.

9. When was the last time you laughed?
With my tutees today

10. What's on the walls, in the room you're in right now?
Very pale yellow paint (Dulux daffodil white), 5 pictures, 4 of which are originals and 3 of which are of different favourite parts of the UK countryside, a mirror, a shelf with clothes rail under it – oh – and a small moth!

11. Have you seen anything strange lately?
Well, not that I can think of offhand. If anything comes to me I’ll blog about it next time.

12. What do you think about this meme?
I like it!

13. What's the last film you saw?
Erm, can’t reemember the exact title but it had something about happyness (sic) in it.

14. If you became a multimillionaire, what would you do with the money?
Buy a house, as my one-bedroom flat is really too small for working from home, erm, invest enough of it ethically and sensibly so as to give me a reasonable income for life, erm, pray very hard and probably get really wound up about what to do with the rest.

15. Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know.
Ohh that’s a tricky one. How about – I usually go to sleep listening to Radio 4/World Service, and sometimes have this in one ear and a taped detective story played on my walkman in the other!

16. If you could change ONE THING in this world, without regarding politics or bad guilt – what would it be?
Well, ideally, I’d change people’s perception of things (including mine) so that they could see things more easily from God’s point of view.

17. Do you like dancing?
Well I’m quite self conscious about it- When I was little, my ballet teacher used to come out of the lesson and say to my mum “fine brain Mrs Arti, fine brain, but absolutely no co-ordination!” So I guess I always feel rather awkward and ungainly, but on the rare occasions when I have been able to “let go” and dance without inhibition, I’ve enjoyed it.

18. George Bush?
When he was first elected, Radio 4 kept referring to the current (currant) bush administration. I liked that!

19. What do you want your children's names to be, girl/boy?
I guess I’m unlikely to have children now, but quite like the names Andrew and Matthew for boys and Claire, Megan, Susannah, and Charis for girls

20. Would you ever consider living abroad?
No, not if I could help it!

21. What do you want God to tell you, when you come to heaven?
Everything’s OK now.

22. Who should do this meme?
Anyone who wants to reveal a few intersting snippets about themselves.

Well I told you I was tired

Today – I have stayed in bed until 4.30pm – rather decadent even for me! OK I have got up to get some breakfast, speak for 3/4 hour on the phone to the mum of one of my tutees and get some lunch- but other than that I have snoozed the day away. I think I did need to, but I have sooo much I really need to be doing. The flat is a tip and I hate it when it is like that and I must do some tutoring preparation too!

Well on that basis I guess I’d better go and get on with something hadn’t I!

Thank you

…to Ian and Semele for your comments/prayers. I did have a good session with my counsellor today. Scary of course but also moving and I think helped me explore areas I’d not been before. I am so glad I have this counselling opportunity to work through things, as I do think it is helping quite a lot – very slowly, but it is helping.

In other news, I’ve enjoyed gardening in my new overalls again – it makes me feel like I’m a “professional” even though I may not have too much of a clue sometimes!

Then I’ve had a sucessful tutoring session. It is always good when the child enjoys the sessions, seems to making progress and the parents are pleased too.

OK – now I’ve got to have some tea. I’ve actually cooked properly today – a casserole (prepared last night) in the slow cooker. I’m just waiting for the rice to cook while I write this. Then I have to do some more tutoring prep before watching Old Tricks ( I do enjoy that programme – detectivy stuff with a feel good factor and nothing too creepy/gory).

Tomorrow is my busy day tutoring – 4 hours of actual tutoring plus a 58 mile round trip of the city! I have a break in the middle with my flask of tea and sandwiches in an ASDA carpark. I do enjoy it though. Driving to my tutoring session today I was thinking – actually, I only have (work-related) things I’m looking forward to for the rest of the week. It is a good way to make a living – even if it is not much of a living!

Feeling funny!

Well I am feeling rather peculiar this evening – kind of a weird emotional mix of sadness, anger and hopefulness at the same time. I’m not exactly sure what is going on but I think I’ve got some things I need to talk to my counsellor tomorrow – If I’m brave enough!

Arti, you are looking very………..in those overalls!

Not a bad week really. I kicked off Monday with a counselling session that was quite scary but still manageable (as long as I don’t think about it at all; no Arti DON’T think about it!). Then I’ve done my usual gardening and tutoring. A tutee cancelled on Wednesday so I took the opportunity to go to a garden centre and research plants for a very difficult area at church. (dry shallow soil around tree base surrounded by hard paving and walked on constantly – mostly by small children. I am determined NOT to become “that lady at church who always yells at the kids to get off the plants”). I also enjoyed an ice-cream. Then I went to Arco to buy some “proper” gardening overalls. I’d decided I needed to buy something substantial as my old “gardening” trousers were looking very disreputable and about to split at the seat seam. I opted for the bib and brace type of overall – which as they are designed for men (they don’t do ladies styles) are very ample, comfortable and have a lot of “bib”. I was told I could have any colour I liked as long as it was navy blue! Now I feel like something out of The Waltons.

I was wearing them this afternoon down at church when one of the church members popped by for something. He said “Arti you are looking very……..(silence, voice faded away)” . I wonder what he was really thinking! Suggestions are welcome.

Someone else wanted to know whether it was my new uniform! Well I suppose it is in a way!

I am going to cut up my old gardening trousers to make a patch for my “decorating” trousers that are also about to disintegrate in the knicker area! Recycling – the possibilities are endless!

A happy morning!

I actually feel happy this morning! (It doesn’t happen all that often!!) I enjoyed church – especially the worship and had a great chat with 2 of my friends afterwards. They reckon they are going to find the man of my dreams for me, so we had a lot of fun with me describing exactly who that might be and them deciding how they would find out who was right for me! They reckoned a questionnaire on entering church might be good, getting people to sit in different areas in the church depending on their responses. They also suggested they might take a sneaky peek in the bible of anyone who was a likely candidate – to check that he was quite spiritual but not so spiritual he’d want to go off and live in a tent in Africa or something!

The deal is – they find the bloke, they get to help plan the wedding (and include all the things they’d have liked to have in theirs but didn’t think of at the time!) – fine by me as they’d have to battle it out with my Mum! :D

Weeding and a wedding

Well the last 2 days have been quite busy. Yesterday ( it is actually yesterday now) we had a wedding at church which I attended. It was a lovely event and I am feeling very full of delicious reception food. On Friday, because of the wedding, I did a lot of gardening down at church and the grounds did look lovely (even if I do say so myself) in the sunshine when the wedding photos were taken. Actually a lot of my time on Friday was spent sweeping up – so much so that I now have a blister between my thumb and finger where the brush handle rubbed it – even though I was wearing gardening gloves most of the time. Still – we all have these little hardships to bear (!!!!)

Then I came home and decided I needed to send (a fairly detailed) email to a work colleague as he needs the information for Monday. Hence the now very late (or early depending on how you look at it) hour.

I’m trying very hard to keep my car from filling up with junk but it isn’t easy!
